• Pre-open auction: 8:30am – 9:00am SGT
• Morning continuous session: 9:00am – 12:00pm SGT

The lunch break distinguishes SGX from many Western exchanges that trade continuously. This applies to equities, S-REIT units, and ETFs.

Order placement timing: Orders placed outside trading hours queue for the next session. During the lunch break, orders accepted by your broker only execute when trading resumes at 1:00pm.

Volatility windows: The first 15–30 minutes after the 9:00am open and the last 15 minutes before 5:00pm close tend to have higher volume and price swings. Retail investors should generally avoid placing market orders in these windows.

Dividend ex-date activity: On a stock’s ex-dividend date, the opening auction often sees higher volumes as traders position around the yield event.

SGX also operates a derivatives market (SGX-DT) with different trading hours:
